Bright & Green develops, builds and operates data centres in Germany and the Netherlands – from securing the land through grid connection, permitting and the energy concept to day-to-day operation.

Scope of services

Development, construction and operation under one responsibility

Bright & Green develops data centres from the first search area through to a shovel-ready site, constructs them and subsequently operates them. The company that applies for the grid connection is the company that later carries responsibility for day-to-day operation. This continuity shapes every site decision, because we secure only what we would operate ourselves.

The legal entity is B&G Holding B.V., based in Arnhem; the markets are Germany and the Netherlands. Our energy expertise derives from more than ten years in the project business, with over 1,500 solar plants built, and from the development, construction and operation of battery storage.

For reasons of confidentiality, Bright & Green publishes data-centre and storage projects under development only once they have been announced. In a personal meeting we set out which sites correspond to your requirements.

  • Development

    Development covers the search area, securing the land, the grid connection, permitting and the energy concept. The result is a shovel-ready site with a connection commitment and planning consent.

  • Construction

    Building shell, electrical systems, cooling, battery storage and the link to the substation are planned, tendered, managed and commissioned.

  • Operation

    Operation covers facility management, energy procurement, waste-heat delivery and the reporting obligations under the German Energy Efficiency Act throughout the lifetime of the asset.

Energy first

The grid connection as the starting point of development

The limiting factor for a data centre in Germany is electrical capacity, not the land and not the technology. Grid capacity at high and extra-high voltage is scarce, and without a binding connection commitment a site can be neither valued nor financed.

Bright & Green therefore develops in reverse order: first the grid, then the land, then the building. Battery storage on site smooths the load peaks, bridges outages and releases additional usable capacity from a limited connection. Renewable generation and long-term power purchase agreements secure the supply, while the waste heat is delivered to a customer in the vicinity.

This expertise derives from the core business of the company. More than ten years of connection procedures for solar plants and battery storage have made Bright & Green familiar with the grid operators, the procedural steps and the typical sources of delay.
