BESS-005 GBB Großbreitenbach / Thuringia

On a 3,000 m² commercial site in Großbreitenbach (Thuringia), a stand-alone battery storage plant designed for four-hour operation is currently being built. The direct-current side (DC) was completed at the end of 2025, and every component required has been ordered. Still to come are the work on the alternating-current side (AC) and commissioning, which is currently scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, expected at the end of March.

The plant has a grid connection capacity of 2,000 kW for both drawing and feeding in power. The installed storage capacity is 10,030 kWh. Four-hour operation as planned requires about 8,000 kWh; the remaining 2,000 kWh serve as a buffer to offset the expected degradation of the battery cells.

High-quality electrical components from German manufacturers are used. A warranty of up to ten years is intended for the main electrical components and the battery storage. Under the applicable policy conditions, liability insurance covers a loss of revenue of up to three months per insurance year.

On the basis of the current revenue forecast, a gross return in the double-digit percentage range is expected. The plant could be of particular interest for an IAB investment for the year 2023, since DC completion has already taken place and revenue is expected to follow soon.
