The project

Project description

East of Sengwarden, Bright & Green is planning the Energiepark Wilhelmshaven: a data centre and, on a site of its own, a battery storage system. Bright & Green develops, plans, procures, delivers and manages the project.

In early September 2026 the project was presented publicly at a digital press conference, with the Minister-President of Lower Saxony, Olaf Lies, in attendance.

The project is at an early stage and has not yet been approved. Every figure on this page is a planning stage and may change as the process continues.

The site

Where the energy park is to be built

The city of Wilhelmshaven put the land out to tender on the concept rather than the price. What decided it was not the highest bid but the most convincing overall concept, and Bright & Green was awarded the site.

The project company for the energy park is to be registered in Wilhelmshaven, so that the tax base stays where the plant is.

The area outlined in red east of Sengwarden, around nine hectares: this land is intended for the planned data centre alone. No battery storage is planned here; it is to be built on a separate site.

Data centre and storage

Two plants, planned in stages

The data centre is planned as a co-location site, designed for AI and HPC loads and for the security requirements of Tier IV. It is to be built in three stages towards a target capacity of around 100 megawatts.

Beside it, a stand-alone battery storage system with a planned capacity of around 250 megawatts is intended – grid-serving and black-start capable, in two stages and on a site of its own. It is not to be built on the data centre's land.
