In brief
Bright & Green develops, builds and operates battery storage itself, both standalone at the grid and alongside a data centre. In this position you take a storage site from the capacity enquiry at the substation to the investment decision: land, connection agreement, building rights and a revenue model that holds up. Because the battery determines how far a limited connection capacity can be used, it is developed as a project in its own right and not as an appendix to a data centre.
Responsibilities
- You identify sites at medium and high voltage substations and establish the available capacity with the grid operator.
- You secure the land by lease, purchase or option and arrange the registration of easements for cable routes and access.
- You run the consenting procedure, from land-use planning or the building permit through to the fire safety, noise and species protection studies.
- You size the battery together with the energy department and model the revenue case from balancing services, trading and peak shaving.
- You tender storage systems and construction works and assess the offers on technical and commercial grounds.
- You prepare the investment paper for the managing partner and hand the project over to construction with a schedule and the consent conditions.
Requirements
- A degree in electrical engineering, energy economics, industrial engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Several years in the development of battery storage, solar parks or comparable plant with its own grid connection.
- Knowledge of the German connection rules VDE-AR-N 4110 and VDE-AR-N 4120 and of the grid operators' technical connection conditions.
- An understanding of a battery's revenue sources: balancing markets including prequalification, the spot market, and individual grid charges under § 19 StromNEV.
- Confidence with financial models and sensitivity analyses.
- German at negotiation level, confident written and spoken English, and a category B driving licence.
