In brief
For a data centre, the grid connection sets the schedule of the entire project. In this position you run the procedures with transmission and distribution system operators: the connection request, the grid impact study, the connection agreement and the connection contract, including how the associated substation fits into them. The role is the interface between project development and the grid operator.
Responsibilities
- You prepare connection requests stating connection capacity, load profile, site data and schedule, and submit them to the responsible grid operator.
- You support the grid impact study, answer the operator's queries and agree the connection point and the reinforcement required.
- You negotiate the connection agreement, the connection contract and the use-of-system contract, and examine construction cost contributions and cost allocations.
- You coordinate the substation with the design engineers, the grid operator and the electrical engineering department, from reserving the land to energisation.
- You examine individual grid charges under § 19 StromNEV and the conditions attached to them for later operation.
- You track dates, costs and procedural status across all connection procedures and report the position to the managing partner.
Requirements
- A degree in electrical or energy engineering, or a technician qualification with corresponding practice.
- Several years of experience with connection procedures at high or extra-high voltage, with a grid operator, a plant contractor or a developer.
- Knowledge of VDE-AR-N 4120 and VDE-AR-N 4110 and of the grid operators' technical connection conditions.
- Confidence with the German energy regulatory framework, in particular the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and the grid charges ordinance (StromNEV).
- German at negotiation level and confident written and spoken English.
- Readiness to attend meetings at grid operators and on site, and a category B driving licence.
