In brief
Almost all of the electrical power drawn by a data centre leaves it as heat, and the German Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG) requires that a share of it be reused. In this position you win the off-taker, design the heat pump and the transfer station, and prepare the heat supply agreement with a municipality, a municipal utility or an industrial user. Because the waste heat off-taker is a site criterion at Bright & Green, this work begins before the land is secured, not after the building is finished.
Responsibilities
- You establish the temperature level, the quantity and the load curve of the waste heat at each site and set them against the demand of possible off-takers.
- You win off-takers, among them heat network operators, municipal utilities, industrial users and new housing areas, and lead the technical discussions.
- You design the heat pump, the transfer station and the connection to the heat network together with the design engineers.
- You prepare heat supply agreements and negotiate pricing, availability and term with the municipal counterparts.
- You embed the project in municipal heat planning under the German Heat Planning Act (WPG).
- You provide the evidence of reused energy required by the Energy Efficiency Act and document it for operation.
Requirements
- A degree in building services, energy engineering or mechanical engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- Several years in heat networks, district heating, large-scale heat pumps or industrial waste heat recovery.
- Knowledge of the AGFW rules, the German district heating supply regulation (AVBFernwärmeV) and the Heat Planning Act.
- Experience in hydraulic design and in the financial appraisal of heat projects.
- An assured manner with administrations, municipal utilities and elected bodies.
- German at negotiation level, English for internal coordination, and a category B driving licence.
